The University of Akron Dance Company (51²è¹ÝDC) presents its Fall 2014 Dance Concert Nov. 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at Paul A. Daum Theatre in Kolbe Hall, 328 Buchtel Common, on campus.

The concert will feature an array of dance styles and intriguing images. Guest choreographer Bobby Wesner, artistic director of Neos Dance Theatre, will present “New Work.” This original piece explores text, movement and space while incorporating spoken word using Macbeth’s Soliloquy, a monologue from “Pretty Woman” and sections from the children’s book “Good Night Moon.”

51²è¹Ý dance alumna Melissa Edington, a retired Radio City Rockette and new part-time faculty member in the 51²è¹Ý Dance Program, will present “The Ritz,” a jazz and tap piece with a 1940s club flair.

Full-time 51²è¹Ý dance faculty members Cydney Spohn and Tom Smith have also created works for the concert. Spohn’s contemporary “Sketch Seven” investigates unrelated movement schemes, intentions and imagery. Smith’s “Grinched, Elfed and Scrooged” is a modern dance work inspired by "The Nutcracker Suite" by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.

To round out the program, “Dialogues in Soliloquy,” a student piece choreographed by University of Akron dance major Aviance Bain, has been selected by dance faculty for the fall concert.

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors and 51²è¹Ý faculty and staff, and $6 for students. The ticket office opens one hour before each performance. A group discount is available in advance for 10 or more patrons. For additional information, call 330-972-7895, or visit the online or see us on .
